Excuse our tardiness!
We’re so sorry for the recent lack of updates to the Keep Calm Gallery blog! We’re taking a little time to reformat this part of the website, once we’ve got it just about right we’ll be back and posting in full force!

Amy Ross

Welcome Amy Ross!
We have been huge fans of the beautiful paintings and collages of Massachusetts based artist Amy Ross for some time and are thrilled to welcome Amy to Keep Calm Gallery.
Amy makes paintings, drawings, and collages that turn the natural world on its head, morphing flora and fauna together into curious hybrid creatures. As she describes: “These images subvert the traditional genre of botanical illustration by approaching the close study of the natural world through the lens of genetic engineering and mutation gone awry.” Her work has been exhibited in galleries and museums throughout the United States. Before going to art school in Boston, Amy earned a Master’s degree in theology from Harvard Divinity School. Not straying too far from her roots, one of her favorite places to visit for inspiration is the Harvard Museum of Natural History, where she spends far too much time drawing and studying the taxidermized animals that live there.
The first print available from Amy Ross at Keep Calm Gallery is a beautiful giclee print taken from one of Amy’s original collages. The print titled Bird Heart is based on a collage of bird heads cut out of the pages of an old field guide. All of the material that goes into Amy’s collages is found on the shelves of used bookstores: in field guides to auction catalogues and art history books to illustrated encyclopedias. The idea for this particular collage came to Amy while baking Valentine’s Day cookies with her daughter, when she used a cookie cutter as a guide for the heart shape. Introducing Frank Chimero

Hayley and I are pleased as punch to announce the arrival of artist and all round good guy Frank Chimero at Keep Calm Gallery!
Frank’s work is inspired by the mid-century aesthetic. In his own words, he tries to recapture that sense of optimism, playfulness and charm that’s characteristic of the period. He strives to make his work be just the right combination of curiosity, humor, heart, enthusiasm, honesty, and cleverness. The pieces usually wind up being a culmination of many smaller ideas rather than one big idea. Sometimes, he even gets out of the house.
Check out the first print from Frank available at Keep Calm Gallery by clicking here. DOOM is a quirky letterpress piece, and each from the small edition of 24 comes with a special bonus print! More to come from Frank in the near future!
